MILLICAN, Texas — The community of Navasota is grieving the heartbreaking loss of 64-year-old Gloria De Duarte, whose life was tragically cut short in a fatal head-on collision early Tuesday morning. The crash occurred around 7:25 a.m. along FM 2154 (Wellborn Road), a route traveled daily by many local residents.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Gloria was driving her Nissan Sentra when, under still-unclear circumstances, her vehicle ended up traveling southbound in the northbound lane. When she saw a Ford F-350 approaching, she attempted to correct her path by swerving into the southbound lane. At the same moment, the driver of the F-350 also swerved into that lane in an attempt to avoid a collision. Both vehicles moved into the same lane simultaneously, resulting in a devastating impact.
Emergency responders arrived within minutes, but despite their swift efforts, Gloria was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Ford F-350 was not injured.
As DPS continues its investigation into what led to the misalignment in lanes that morning, one thing is certain: the loss of Gloria De Duarte has left a deep void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A Life Remembered
Gloria was more than a crash victim. She was a mother, a family member, a friend, and a valued part of the Navasota community.
