JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A late-night shooting outside a fast-food restaurant on Blanding Boulevard left 18-year-old Matthew Jackson dead, another man injured, and 28-year-old Dawud Burritt—identified by police as the gunman—under arrest within hours after the Saturday night violence.
Around 8:40 p.m., District 4 Patrol officers responded to reports of a shooting near Collins Road. When officers arrived, they discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Jackson was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the second victim was rushed to the hospital and is expected to recover.
Homicide detectives immediately began interviewing witnesses, reviewing surveillance footage, and collecting evidence from the scene. Through these swift investigative actions, officers quickly identified Burritt as the suspect. He was arrested early Sunday morning and booked into the Duval County Jail, where he now faces multiple charges, including murder and attempted murder.
Police have not yet revealed what may have sparked the confrontation or whether Burritt knew the victims. Investigators say the case remains active and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
Authorities offered condolences to Jackson’s family and expressed hope for the full recovery of the surviving victim, calling the shooting a “senseless act of violence” that has left the community shaken.
