At approximately 2:10 a.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 500 block of Hines Street. Upon arrival, they secured the scene and located a victim who had sustained at least one gunshot wound. The victim was later identified as Thaddeus Lamont Kirkland, of the 2700 block of Ashton Drive in Hephzibah, Georgia. Despite emergency response efforts, Thaddeus tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene. He was officially pronounced deceased at 2:55 a.m. by Deputy Coroner John Rutland.
