In Loving Memory of Resa Unwritten A Heartbreaking Tragedy in Lehigh Acres

Lehigh Acres is mourning an unthinkable tragedy after a fatal crash claimed the life of Resa Unwritten, a beloved community member whose presence brought warmth, kindness, and quiet strength to those who knew her. In the early hours of Friday morning, at approximately 12:18 AM, first responders were called to the intersection of Douglas Lane and Harold Avenue S after a vehicle plowed into a group of pedestrians, changing several lives forever.

According to authorities, the vehicle was traveling westbound when it veered into the pedestrians before leaving the roadway, crashing into a driveway culvert, damaging guy wires connected to a power pole, and then re-entering the street before finally coming to rest near 4515 Douglas Lane. Despite the severity of the crash, the driver briefly checked on the victims before fleeing the scene on foot, leaving behind devastation and unanswered questions.

Among the victims was Resa Unwritten, who tragically passed away at the scene at 12:26 AM. She was found beside a stroller, symbolizing the innocence and vulnerability of the moments leading up to the crash. Her loss is immeasurable—a vibrant life cut short, leaving family, friends, and community members with a profound sense of grief.

Three other victims—a man, a woman, and a young boy approximately two years old—were discovered lying on the ground as fire crews and medics rushed to save them. All were transported as Trauma Alerts to Gulf Coast Medical Center. The young child and adult female remain in critical condition, fighting for their lives, while the adult male is reported to be in stable condition. Their recovery will be long, difficult, and forever marked by the trauma of this unimaginable night.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office, including Aviation, K9, and Patrol units, established a perimeter in an intense effort to locate the fleeing driver, but the suspect remains at large. As the Florida Highway Patrol continues its investigation, authorities urge anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be shared with SWFL Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477) or the Florida Highway Patrol at *FHP (347).

Today, the community bows its head in sorrow, remembering Resa Unwritten—a life taken far too soon. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she loved, in the stories shared by family and friends, and in the unbreakable spirit of a community that refuses to let her death go unanswered. May her soul rest in peace, and may justice be served for Resa and all who were harmed on this tragic night.

Forever remembered. Forever loved.
