It is with deep sorrow and immense heartbreak that we share the passing of 18-year-old Joseph Cruz of Brownsville, Texas, whose life was tragically cut short in a devastating off-road vehicle accident on Saturday.
According to Cameron County Sheriff Manuel Treviño, the crash occurred north of the Boca Chica Beach entrance, where an ATV-type vehicle rolled over multiple times. Joseph was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Authorities noted that he was not wearing a seatbelt when the crash occurred.
Despite immediate response and efforts at the scene, Joseph did not survive his injuries. His sudden and unexpected passing has left his family, friends, and community shocked, grieving, and trying to make sense of this heartbreaking loss.
Joseph was just 18—full of energy, potential, and dreams for the future. Those who knew him remember his bright spirit, kind nature, and the warmth he brought to everyone around him.
