Spartanburg County, S.C. — The community is grieving the tragic and unimaginable loss of 16-year-old Brodarrien K. Tate, whose life was taken far too soon in a shooting near his home Monday evening. What began as an ordinary night for a young teen ended in heartbreak, leaving family, friends, and neighbors devastated.
Brodarrien, known to those who loved him as a bright, kind-hearted, and spirited young man, was found in a parking lot near his Bryant Road residence after gunfire was reported in the area. Despite the immediate response from first responders, he was pronounced deceased at 8:46 p.m. on November 24, 2025.
The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office, led by Coroner Rusty Clevenger, confirmed his identity and extended deep condolences to his grieving family. The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, working to bring clarity and justice to a tragedy that has shaken the community.
But beyond the investigation—beyond the headlines and unanswered questions—was Brodarrien:
A son.
A friend.
A young man with dreams, laughter, and a future he deserved to live.
Those who knew Brodarrien describe him as a teen full of promise—a loving presence who cared deeply for those around him. He had a quiet strength, a warm spirit, and the kind of personality that made others feel seen and valued. Whether joking with friends, helping family, or simply being the bright young soul he was, Brodarrien touched more lives in 16 years than many do in a lifetime.
His loss has left a void that cannot be filled. His family must now navigate a world forever changed, one missing the boy they watched grow, nurtured, and loved beyond measure.
Coroner Clevenger, moved by yet another young life lost, shared a touching plea to the community:
“Violence continues to wreak havoc on our community, especially our children. We must change our mindset. We must find better ways to resolve our conflicts. Take a moment to be thankful for what you have—and pray for the families living through unimaginable pain.”
As loved ones prepare for the difficult days ahead, the community stands with the Tate family—lifting them in prayer, holding them in compassion, and remembering Brodarrien not for the way he left this world, but for the beautiful, impactful life he lived.
Though his time here was short, his light remains.
His memory lives in every person who knew him, in every smile he inspired, and in every heart he touched.
Rest in peace, Brodarrien K. Tate.
Gone far too soon, but never forgotten.
May justice come, may healing begin, and may your spirit be forever cherished.
