DECATUR, Ill— A heavy police presence surrounded East Wabash Street on Wednesday evening as the Decatur Police Department launched a homicide investigation following reports of shots fired near Downtown Decatur, where the victim, identified as Pablo L. Lee, was found at the scene. Officers were initially dispatched to investigate calls of gunfire and later confirmed to WAND News that the incident is officially being investigated as a homicide.
A WAND News photographer, who arrived on the scene shortly after 8:30 p.m., captured images of the large police response. Multiple squad cars lined East Wabash Street, and sections of the roadway were marked off with crime scene tape as investigators worked to piece together what happened.
Authorities confirmed that Pablo L. Lee was the individual located at the scene. No additional details regarding his injuries or the events leading up to the shooting have been released.
At this time, police say there are no suspects, and investigators are still working to determine what led to the gunfire. The area remained active for several hours as detectives examined the scene, spoke with witnesses, and collected evidence.
The Decatur Police Department has not yet released further information regarding possible motives, suspect descriptions, or any additional individuals who may have been involved.
