DA Announces Homicide Investigation in Norristown; Victim Identified as 19-Year-Old Hamid Boyd

NORRISTOWN, Pa. — Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele and Norristown Police Chief Michael Trail have announced the launch of a homicide investigation following a deadly shooting Sunday evening that claimed the life of 19-year-old Hamid Boyd, a Norristown resident.

The incident occurred around 6:15 p.m. on November 30, 2025, in the 1000 block of Powell Street, a residential area that has seen heightened police activity in recent months. According to authorities, Norristown Police were dispatched to the intersection of Powell and Spruce Streets after the county’s ShotSpotter gunfire detection system registered multiple rounds fired in the area.

When officers arrived, they found Boyd suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers immediately began CPR and provided emergency aid until paramedics arrived. Boyd was then transported to Jefferson Montgomery Einstein Hospital, where he was pronounced dead despite lifesaving efforts.

A joint homicide investigation was launched by Norristown Police and Montgomery County Detectives, who spent the evening canvassing the neighborhood, collecting surveillance footage, and interviewing potential witnesses.

At this stage, authorities have not released information regarding suspects or motive. Detectives are urging the public to come forward with any details—no matter how small—that may help bring those responsible to justice.
