One Dead, Three Seriously Injured After Vehicle Plows Into Pedestrians; Driver Flees Scene

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. — A tragic early-morning crash in Lehigh Acres has left Resa Unwritten dead and three others— including a toddler—seriously injured after a vehicle struck multiple pedestrians before the driver fled on foot. The violent incident occurred around 12:18 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Douglas Lane and Harold Avenue S.

Crash Sequence: Vehicle Strikes Pedestrians, Veers Off Road

According to investigators, the vehicle involved had been traveling westbound along Douglas Lane when it veered into a group of pedestrians. After striking the victims, the vehicle continued off the roadway, entering a driveway culvert, and then slammed into a pair of guy wires attached to a power pole. The impact redirected the vehicle back onto the road before it finally came to rest at 4515 Douglas Ln.

Witnesses and early reports indicate that the driver briefly exited the vehicle, checked on the injured individuals, and then fled the scene on foot, leaving behind a devastating aftermath.

One Victim Pronounced Dead at the Scene

First responders from Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District arrived minutes after the crash was reported. Tragically, one victim—an adult—was pronounced dead on scene at 12:26 a.m. The victim’s body was found lying next to a stroller, underscoring the heartbreaking and violent nature of the incident. The deceased has been identified as Resa Unwritten.

Three Additional Victims Transported as Trauma Alerts

Three other victims, including:

  • An adult male
  • An adult female
  • An approximately 2-year-old boy

were found lying on the ground near the scene of the crash. All were classified as Trauma Alerts and transported to Gulf Coast Medical Center for emergency care.

Hospital reports indicate:

  • The female victim is in critical condition
  • The 2-year-old boy is also in critical condition
  • The adult male is in stable condition

The identities of the injured victims have not been publicly released at this time.

Search for Driver Unsuccessful

Following the driver’s escape, LCSO Aviation, K9 units, and Patrol deputies established a perimeter around the area in an attempt to locate the suspect. Despite extensive efforts, the driver was not found and remains at large.

Authorities have emphasized the urgency of identifying the person responsible, describing the incident as a violent hit-and-run with catastrophic consequences.

Investigation Ongoing — Public’s Help Requested

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is leading the investigation. Officials are urging anyone with knowledge about the suspect, the vehicle, or the circumstances surrounding the crash to come forward.
