HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. — The Halifax County community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 87-year-old Jesse W. Rone of Nathalie, who tragically lost his life in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday evening. The fatal collision occurred at approximately 6:12 p.m. at the intersection of Chatham Road and Beulah Road, a rural and familiar crossing to many local residents. According to Virginia State Police, Jesse was driving a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria when his vehicle entered the intersection from Beulah Road, where a stop sign is posted. At the same moment, a 2002 GMC Yukon traveling westbound on Chatham Road was unable to avoid a collision.
The impact was severe, and despite being properly restrained, Jesse suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. His passing has sent waves of grief throughout the Nathalie community and beyond.
