In Loving Memory of Cornelius Stuckey

With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we remember and honor the life of Cornelius Stuckey, a 33-year-old man whose life was tragically taken on January 3 following a shooting on Longwood Cove. What began as an ordinary afternoon was forever changed by an act of violence that has left a family grieving, loved ones heartbroken, and a community mourning a life lost far too soon.

At approximately 12:05 p.m., dispatch received a call reporting a shooting in the Longwood Cove area. Deputies responded swiftly to the scene, where they found Cornelius suffering from a gunshot wound. Without hesitation, deputies began administering life-saving measures, doing everything within their power to help him as they awaited the arrival of Pafford Emergency Services. Their efforts reflected the urgency and gravity of the moment, as every second mattered.

Cornelius was transported by ambulance to Baptist Hospital in Yazoo City, where medical staff continued to fight for his life. Despite these efforts, he was sadly pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital. The news of his passing sent waves of sorrow through his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Cornelius Stuckey was more than a name in a report—he was a son, a family member, a friend, and a presence whose absence will be deeply felt. At just 33 years old, he had dreams, relationships, and a future that will now remain unfulfilled. Those who knew him will remember his spirit, his voice, and the moments shared with him—memories that will live on even in the midst of pain and loss.

In the wake of this tragedy, two male subjects have surrendered and are currently being held at the Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility. Authorities have stated that the investigation remains ongoing as they continue to seek justice and clarity surrounding the circumstances of this heartbreaking incident.

During this incredibly difficult time, our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Cornelius Stuckey. May they find strength in one another, comfort in shared memories, and support from the community that stands beside them in grief.
