INDIANAPOLIS — Heartbreak has swept across the south side of Indianapolis following the tragic death of 26-year-old Amanda S. Jones, a devoted mother whose life was senselessly cut short late Monday night. Amanda, a loving parent to her 2-year-old child, was killed in a shooting inside her home—leaving a family shattered and a community grieving.
Just before midnight, at approximately 11:54 p.m., officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of multiple gunshots in the 700 block of Turtle Creek North Drive. When officers arrived, they found Amanda inside the residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite their efforts, Amanda was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Her 2-year-old child, who was nearby when the shooting occurred, was physically unharmed—but forever changed.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office formally identified the victim as Amanda S. Jones, a woman loved deeply by family, friends, and all who knew her. Described as kind, protective, and full of love for her child, Amanda’s loss leaves a void that words cannot fill.
Two individuals were detained as “persons of interest,” according to IMPD, and investigators believe there is no ongoing threat to the community. Detectives continue canvassing the area for witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage in the search for answers—and justice.
IMPD Capt. Rob Rider spoke to the gravity of the loss:
“Now this child doesn’t have a mother. I can tell you whoever did this heinous act, detectives are tirelessly working to find out who did this crime.”
Amanda’s loved ones are left navigating unimaginable pain while trying to come to terms with a future where her presence, laughter, and love are no longer with them. Her young child will grow up surrounded by stories—stories of her warmth, her strength, and her unwavering devotion as a mother.
As the investigation continues, IMPD urges anyone with information to come forward. Even the smallest detail could help bring justice for Amanda:
IMPD: (317) 327-3475
Crime Stoppers: (317) 262-TIPS (8477)
Amanda deserved safety. She deserved her future. Most of all, she deserved the chance to raise her child and watch life unfold with joy and love. Her memory will be cherished by those who knew her, and her community stands with her family in this time of profound grief.
May Amanda S. Jones rest in eternal peace.
May her child be surrounded with love, protection, and the support they so deeply need.
And may justice come swiftly and fully for Amanda.
Gone too soon, but never forgotten.
