13-Year-Old Darvelle Nelson Dies After Shooting on Balkan Place; Investigation Ongoing

TOLEDO, Ohio — A heartbreaking update has been released by Toledo Police following a shooting that occurred in the 1800 block of Balkan Place. Authorities confirmed that 13-year-old Darvelle Nelson, who had been rushed to the hospital in critical condition, has tragically succumbed to his injuries.

The shooting happened earlier in the day when officers responded to reports of a juvenile who had been shot. Upon arrival, police found Darvelle suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. Emergency medical crews provided immediate care before transporting him to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. Despite intensive efforts to save him, police announced that Darvelle did not survive.

The area around Balkan Place was heavily canvassed by officers and detectives throughout the afternoon as the investigation intensified. Police have not yet released information regarding potential suspects, the circumstances leading up to the shooting, or whether the incident may have stemmed from an altercation, accidental discharge, or targeted attack.
