The Brownsville community is mourning the tragic loss of 18-year-old Joseph Cruz, who passed away following an ATV accident near Boca Chica Beach on Saturday afternoon. Joseph, a beloved son, brother, and friend, had his life cut short far too soon, leaving family, friends, and neighbors devastated.
The accident occurred when the ATV Joseph was riding as a passenger rolled over multiple times near the Boca Chica entrance. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but despite their efforts, Joseph—who was not wearing a seatbelt—was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities have confirmed that the incident was an accidental fatality. Three other passengers sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
Those who knew Joseph remember him as a vibrant, outgoing, and kind-hearted young man.
