The community of Bryantown and Port Tobacco is grieving the heartbreaking loss of 22-year-old Benjamin Thomas Mattingly, whose life was tragically cut short on the evening of November 22. Benjamin, a beloved son, friend, and member of the community, passed away following a single-vehicle crash near Olivers Shop Road and Edelen Drive. His sudden loss has left family, loved ones, and neighbors devastated.
Benjamin was found outside of his red Honda Accord after the vehicle left the roadway and collided with a tree. Despite the swift response of officers and medical personnel, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. His passing has sent shockwaves through the community, touching the lives of all who knew and cherished him.
Those closest to Benjamin remember him as a young man full of potential, kindness, and quiet strength. He was known for his warm heart, his loyalty to the people he cared about, and the gentle presence that made others feel at ease. Whether he was spending time with family, lending a hand to a friend, or simply enjoying the simplicity of everyday moments, Benjamin had a way of making life brighter for those around him.
His family mourns not only the loss of his presence today, but the future he should have had—the milestones, the dreams, and the joys that were taken far too soon. Friends have described him as someone who left a mark on every life he touched, someone who deserved so much more time than fate allowed.
As the Charles County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash, Benjamin’s loved ones ask for privacy, compassion, and support during this profoundly painful time. They hope that anyone who may have witnessed the incident will come forward, not out of obligation, but out of respect for a life lost far too early.
