BRISTOL, Tenn. — A quiet Bristol neighborhood was jolted awake early Sunday morning when a shooting on Lilly Street just after midnight left 21 year old Lexy Coleman and Deonte Wright dead and Kevin Collin injured. Police say the violence was allegedly carried out by Elijah Khalil Campbell, who later surrendered to authorities in Bristol, Virginia.
According to the Bristol, Tennessee Police Department, officers were dispatched shortly after midnight following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Coleman and Wright were pronounced dead at the scene, while Collin was transported to a nearby hospital. His injuries are still being evaluated, and his current condition has not yet been publicly released.
Detectives quickly identified Elijah Khalil Campbell as the suspected gunman. Within hours of the incident, Campbell turned himself in to Bristol, Virginia law enforcement and was taken into custody without resistance. Police have not released details regarding the events leading up to the shooting or the relationship between Campbell and the victims, but they emphasize that the investigation is active and ongoing.
Campbell now faces several serious charges, including:
- Two counts of first-degree murder
- One count of attempted first-degree murder
