20-Year-Old Charged in Fatal Shooting of Father in Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Pretance Joquann Ratliff, 20, is facing a murder charge after being accused of fatally shooting his father, 59-year-old Chris Ratliff, on Sunday night, according to the Greensboro Police Department.

At approximately 7:34 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to the 700 block of West Terrell Street following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found Chris Ratliff unresponsive inside a home, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

As officers secured the area and began their investigation, they identified the victim’s son, Pretance Joquann Ratliff, as the suspect in the fatal shooting. Police said he was taken into custody at the scene without incident.

Authorities confirmed that Pretance Joquann Ratliff has been charged with murder and is currently being held without bond.

Investigators have not released details regarding a possible motive or what led up to the shooting. The case remains under active investigation, and officials say more information may be released as it becomes available and when appropriate to maintain the integrity of the case.
