15-Year-Old Ciara Crisman Killed in Tragic Semi-Truck Crash in Black Hawk County

BLACK HAWK COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) — A quiet Tuesday morning in Black Hawk County was shattered by a heartbreaking crash that claimed the life of 15-year-old Ciara Crisman of Waterloo, leaving family members, friends, and the wider community grieving a young life lost far too soon.

Authorities say the fatal collision occurred around 7:43 a.m. at the intersection of Canfield Road and Independence Avenue, a rural crossroads just outside of Waterloo. Emergency crews were dispatched after receiving reports of a serious crash involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle.

According to investigators, a car traveling eastbound on Independence Avenue attempted to cross the intersection and pulled out in front of a semi-truck that was traveling southbound on Canfield Road. The semi was unable to stop in time, and the two vehicles collided with devastating force. Both the semi and the passenger vehicle left the roadway and came to rest in the southeast ditch of the intersection, as detailed in the crash report.

Authorities have identified the victim as Ciara Crisman, a 15-year-old from Waterloo, who was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.
